THE SCOURGE OF INHUMANITY…IS RELIGION TRULY AN EXCUSE?

Man’s
Inhumanity to man has manifested in various forms all over the world. This is
evident in various Religious conflicts, Ethnic crises, Xenophobic attacks, Genocide,
etc. Amidst all of these happenings, a disturbing event that comes to mind, is that
of 12 Christian migrants thrown overboard by migrant Muslims, as a result of
religious intolerance. Hmm… the things that people do in the name of religion!
Although
15 people have been arrested in connection to this heinous crime, one begins to
wonder, how did we get to this height of callousness?
Christianity
or Islam did not originate from Africa! But why have the two religions become
the focal point of our religious problems? These questions are very much
pleading for answers.
It
saddens my heart when African migrants get involved in these types of
ridiculous fracases, especially in situations such as this, that require a
greater sense of togetherness.
Most
refugees desperately embark on these perilous adventures in search of greener
pastures because of the senseless wars that have plagued their lands or the
unpleasant political systems that have ravaged their country’s economy.
Moreover,
the situation becomes dire when we fail to learn from our past experiences. Religion
is not an end in itself, but a means to an end. So when we fail in our
responsibilities to be our brother’s keeper (because of our beliefs), then we
have a serious problem.
I
may be wrong but I believe no religion in the world teaches hatred, so those
who fight on the basis of their religious beliefs are not justified in any way.
Truth
be told, religion is not and should not be an excuse for being inhumane.

I totally agree! Religion is truly not an excuse for any form of inhumanity.
